$2M LOTR RPG campaign sets new stretch goals
The quest for the One Ring is officially hitting milestones, and the community’s enthusiasm has completely overwhelmed the publisher, Free League.
Since launching its roleplaying game in 2022, the campaign for The One Ring RPG has proven to be an absolute hit. It didn’t just meet expectations; it shattered them, smashing its crowdfunding goals by thirty-two times in less than a single day. The project has now amassed a staggering $2 million in pledges, demonstrating an incredible appetite for deeper dives into Middle-earth.
As this momentum accelerated, Free League realized that simply setting goals wasn’t enough. To keep pace with the demand and maintain the thrilling pace of the adventure, the team had to introduce a host of new stretch goals. This continuous expansion has resulted in five additional goals, balancing the community’s requests with the practical demands of development.
Among the new additions are exciting new content, including bonus maps and a brand-new location that is already sparking intense interest. The most tantalizing discovery is a journey to The Tower of Triumph in Umbar. This stronghold, mentioned only in passing before, is a human fortress serving Sauron, where “seers and sorcerers of the city keep watch upon Gondor, and work many dark designs.” Being able to explore this mysterious place adds a thrilling, unexplored dimension to the game.
The continuous surge in pledges has driven further development, unlocking new assets like a digital art compilation for $2.2 million and a map of Bree within the new Core Rules book, available for $2.4 million. With the pace at which these figures are being reached, the team is clearly well on their way to unlocking even more secrets.
Even simple mechanics are getting an update, with optional rules for setting up camp introduced to enliven shorter traveling sequences. The excitement surrounding The One Ring is clearly far from over, promising yet another epic journey into the darker corners of Middle-earth.
