Gaming hardware is about to get a serious glow-up. Sony is ready to bring back one of the most beloved design trends of the late nineties and early 2000s, blending nostalgia with cutting-edge technology in a stunning new line: the Prism Collection. This exclusive line of DualSense controllers and PlayStation 5 console covers will redefine how we view gaming accessories by embracing transparent, glossy materials.

The Prism Collection arrives in three distinct, high-gloss shades: Flare Orange, Emerald Green, and Graphite Gray. These aren’t just colors; they are aesthetic choices designed to complement the sophisticated industrial design of the PS5.

Sony’s design team drew inspiration from the PS5’s focus on creating a transparent look, allowing the powerful technology underneath to shine through. This approach allows users to not only showcase the hardware but also enjoy a sleek, monochromatic appearance. The design aims to provide a premium look that feels perfectly consistent with the current generation of consoles.

Flare Orange offers a bold and vibrant aesthetic, perfect for those who want to make a statement. In contrast, Emerald Green provides an elegant finish, while Graphite Gray promises a refined and sophisticated look for the console itself.

The philosophy behind the design was rooted in bringing back the iconic see-through trend in a fresh, modern way. Leo Cardoso and Satoshi Aoyagi, members of Sony’s Color, Material, and Finish design team, stated that they wanted to reconnect with that retro trend while seamlessly integrating it with the PS5’s industrial design.

The new DualSense controllers featured this high-gloss clear finish across the back, letting the internal technology gleam, while the metallic finish on the middle cover ties the contrasting surfaces together for a cohesive, premium appearance.

When it comes to pricing, the Prism Collection offers excellent value. The DualSense controllers will retail at an MSRP of $85 each, and the PS5 console covers are priced at $75 each. Fans who missed previous opportunities can also look forward to other special editions, including the limited-edition Marathon and Gran Turismo DualSense controllers this year, as well as striking Marvel’s Wolverine console covers.

Get ready to upgrade your setup. Preorders for the Prism Collection will open on November 10 through the PlayStation Direct store, with the full rollout scheduled for February 4, 2027. It’s time to see the technology inside the style.
