Activision to make next Halo game amid job losses
The Xbox empire is undergoing a significant internal shift, with Microsoft confirming a new wave of restructuring that impacts game development studios and internal management. This strategic overhaul, framed under the larger “Reset” initiative, signals major changes across Xbox Game Studios and its first-party developer ecosystem.
The changes are not limited to one area; the restructuring affects several key development groups. Specifically, Halo Studios is facing significant reductions, with approximately 268 employees losing their roles. This reduction encompasses staff from Halo Studios, other first-party developers, and the management and central functions layer of the Xbox Game Studios.
One of the most notable shifts involves the integration of major development entities. For instance, the work previously housed within Halo Studios is now being reorganized under the umbrella of Bethesda, signaling a deepening of ties between these massive gaming corporations.
These adjustments are part of a larger corporate strategy aimed at refocusing Xbox’s development efforts. Matt Booty, speaking about the internal process, indicated that the company is roughly three-quarters of the way through executing these extensive changes.
This restructuring effort, while designed to realign resources and priorities, underscores the dynamic and often turbulent world of major tech corporate transformations. As the “Reset” continues, the focus remains on optimizing the portfolio while navigating the complexities of large-scale creative and operational changes.
