The curtain is about to rise on a new chapter for the DC Universe, and the big question hanging over the upcoming Clayface film is whether Gotham‘s darkest protector will be around.

DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran has just confirmed that Batman is indeed active in Gotham during the events of the new live-action film. While the details remain tightly guarded, this confirmation signals an important shift in how the sprawling DCU is being introduced to the screen.

Safran noted that while they haven’t extensively discussed Batman‘s specific role in the film, he is firmly established in the narrative. This new project serves as the gateway, the introduction to the world of live-action Gotham.

We saw a glimpse of this connection previously, as a silhouette of Batman appeared in Lanterns season 1 episode 6, when Hal Jordan complained about Batman using the Bat Signal in the city.

This development is significant because the upcoming Clayface movie is positioned within the broader DCU proper, rather than being strictly confined to the universe established by Matt Reeves’ Batman films. This expansion opens up exciting possibilities for exploring Gotham in new ways.

While the focus is on this new cinematic direction, the DCU continues to expand its universe with dedicated stories for other iconic characters. We are also keeping an eye on other villains, with Poison Ivy set to make her own live-action DCU debut soon.

The narrative thread suggests that the pieces are moving into place: the groundwork is being laid for a larger, interconnected cinematic world. As we look ahead to the October 23 release date for Clayface, the anticipation builds for how this new, expansive vision of Gotham will unfold.
