A Voice Takes a Pause: Jennifer English Steps Back from Tides of Annihilation

The world of fantasy role-playing games is buzzing with news, but for developers and voice actors alike, sometimes the most important story is about taking a well-deserved pause. In the development of Tides of Annihilation, a major shift is underway as acclaimed talent Jennifer English steps away from voicing the game’s protagonist due to personal health considerations.

While this news might sound like a quiet retraction, it underscores the fact that supporting massive fantasy worlds requires immense energy. English has been a fixture in some of the industry’s most celebrated RPGs, lending her voice to beloved characters across titles such as Baldur’s Gate 3’s Shadowheart, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s Maelle, and even Elden Ring’s Latenna.

The transition for the protagonist, Gwendolyn, is being managed smoothly by Eclipse Glow Games. The studio confirmed that English will be handing over the role to another talented performer while continuing to act as an advisor on the project. This collaborative approach highlights the team’s commitment to finding the perfect voice to carry the story forward.

“We have some sad news to share, that Jennifer English will be stepping away from her role as the English voice of Gwendolyn, the main protagonist in Tides of Annihilation due to personal health reasons,” the developer announced. “She will continue to support the project in an advisory role.”

The studio emphasized that this decision was made with a focus on well-being and careful reassessment of commitments. English shared her perspective, noting that she needed time to rest and properly look after her mental and physical health before taking on further projects.

Her positive outlook remains strong. “I’ve been incredibly supportive of Tides of Annihilation since its inception and have worked with such a lovely team,” English shared on social media. She expressed gratitude for the opportunities, balancing her professional commitments with the need to slow down.

The team has already cast a new voice for Gwendolyn, though they are keeping the identity private for now. Fans will get an early taste of this transition when players can hear the new performance for the first time in the game’s demo this August, along with further updates from the studio.

Tides of Annihilation is set to arrive on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. The game, which was originally envisioned as a grand fantasy adventure, will allow players to explore a shattered, twisted fantasy version of London.
