Chun-Li, Ryu, Akuma fight in Apex Legends Outlands
Get ready to kick up some dust and unleash some serious power, because the world of Apex Legends is about to get a major fighting game makeover. The collaboration with Street Fighter is dropping on Tuesday, September 22, promising a high-octane experience that merges the battle royale action with the legendary finesse of Capcom’s iconic fighting franchise.
This isn’t just a cosmetic update; it’s a full-blown transformation of the Outlands, introducing new aesthetics, legendary cosmetics, and an entirely new way to fight. Prepare to dive into a world where Legends trade their rifles for punch combos and their battlegrounds for high-energy showdowns.
The visual feast begins with a spectacular collection of new skins. Players can snag eight Iconic Skins that transform their Legends into beloved Street Fighter characters, alongside an Epic Skin for Lifeline, reimagined as Li-Fen, Chun-Li’s protégé from the World Tour story mode. The design philosophy focused heavily on matching character personality with Legends, resulting in some truly inspired pairings.
For example, Sparrow is reimagined as Ryu, emphasizing muscle definition, while Mirage shines as Luke, capturing his laid-back, non-serious personality. Gibraltar takes on the imposing form of Akuma, and Caustic’s canisters feature terrifying electric eels, blending his unpredictable nature with Blanka’s wild energy. Even Pathfinder is dressed as the teleporting Dhalsim, showing how the team managed to translate complex designs onto robotic forms.
Beyond the Legends, the collaboration includes eight new Legendary weapon skins, adding further flair to the arsenal. Plus, players will unlock a host of extra goodies, including unique Skydive Emotes (one of which is a Tatsumaki emote), Holosprays, stickers of the entire Street Fighter roster, badges, and trackers.
To really immerse players in the fighting spirit, Respawn has introduced a new cosmetic: the Hadouken Universal Melee. This lets players literally throw a Hadouken projectile during battle, complete with a matching Deathbox, adding a truly physical layer to the combat.
The map itself, Olympus, is undergoing a total overhaul. The area is now decked out with vibrant colors, graffiti, giant Blanka-chan balloons, and silver statues of the featured characters. Even the Punch Trucks scattered around the POI are now targets for melee attacks, allowing players to earn Fight Gauge tokens in the traditional Street Fighter style.
Pathfinder’s Fight Night has also been transformed into Luke’s Gym, complete with arcade cabinets, punching bags, and weight racks, all drenched in Luke’s signature blue and orange. A massive screen spanning the area features Ryu and Chun-Li facing off, setting an electrifying tone for the entire match.
The most revolutionary change is the introduction of the Wildcard Takeover mode. This mode swaps out traditional gunplay for pure martial arts. Instead of firing bullets, players must use their Street Fighter skills to punch and kick opponents, filling their Fighter Gauge with combos. Players can enter Fighter Form, gaining access to new tactical abilities, movement, and blocking capabilities suited to their chosen character—Ryu, Chun-Li, Dhalsim, or Akuma.
The final stage culminates in a high-stakes Showdown, where all combatants rejoin the fray until only one squad remains standing. This mode perfectly captures the competitive DNA of the collaboration, proving that whether you’re fighting a battle royale or a street brawl, the drive to win remains the same.
