Cinder City MMO halves its RAM needs after Seoul specs

PC

The world is facing a memory crisis, yet the latest launch of a popular tactical shooter MMO seems determined to remind us that things are far from settled. The irony is palpable: while global supply chains grapple with hardware shortages, a massive video game release was set to demand staggering amounts of system memory.

When Cinder City hit the Steam page, it established demanding specifications for players. The game listed 32GB of RAM as the minimum requirement and recommended 64GB for an optimal experience—specs that push far beyond what is typically expected for a modern 3D title.

This set of requirements immediately drew attention to the ongoing hardware crunch, but the story didn’t end there. In a move that felt almost deliberately ironic, publishers were asked for clarification on these demands, but the answers did not arrive promptly.

However, just hours later, those recommended specifications underwent a silent transformation. As of this afternoon, the system requirements have quietly adjusted, reflecting the very real pressures of the current market.

The shift involved both increases and decreases: the required Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) requirement rose from an RTX 4060 to an RTX 4070. Simultaneously, the memory demand softened considerably, dropping from a recommended 64GB down to a more manageable 32GB.

It seems the developers, or perhaps the market forces themselves, intervened to make the game more accessible. The result is an interesting juxtaposition: a high-profile MMO demanding massive resources, only to have those demands subtly recalibrated to fit the current reality of hardware availability. It’s a reminder that even in the digital realm, the real-world constraints are always in play.
