Clayface body horror trailer gives you nightmares
Get ready for some truly unsettling cinema, because a new trailer for the DC Universe’s first all-out horror film, Clayface, has arrived, promising a nightmare where the line between skin and self dissolves into horrifying chaos.
The preview immediately plunges viewers into a brutal narrative. The story centers on Hollywood actor Matt Hagen (played by Tom Rhys Harries), who finds himself the victim of a savage attack resulting in severe scarring that leaves him unable to work. In a desperate bid for recovery, he seeks out an experimental treatment administered by the trusted doctor Caitlin Bates (Naomi Ackie). But this treatment comes with devastating side effects—effects that are anything but conventional.
As the film unfolds, the horror takes on a truly visceral dimension. Hagen experiences bizarre physical transformations, including his eyelids literally sticking together and being torn apart during a turbulent flight. It’s a masterclass in body horror, nodding directly to the unsettling brilliance of director David Cronenberg.
This live-action spectacle draws deeply from established lore, linking it to the animated world of Creature Commandos. The Clayface featured in the animated series, inspired by Batman: The Animated Series, is the very monster that audiences are about to witness in devastating reality. This connection promises a terrifying tapestry where animation meets visceral, disturbing action.
The film is helmed by James Watkins (Eden Lake), whose screenplay was penned by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, ensuring a narrative depth that mirrors the physical distress of its characters. The cast also features established talents including David Dencik, Max Minghella, and Eddie Marsan, all contributing to the unsettling atmosphere.
Clayface is slated to hit theaters on October 23. While audiences wait for this visceral experience, those already immersed in the DC lore can stream Creature Commandos in its entirety now on HBO Max.
