Commander Precons In Stock for MSRP But There’s a Catch
Ready to jump into the sprawling world of Magic: The Gathering but feeling a little lost about where to begin? Wizards of the Coast has delivered a fantastic solution with the launch of the new Foundation Commander decks, offering a perfect “on-ramp” for newcomers looking to explore the dynamic Commander format.
These new decks, tied to the Reality Fracture set, provide a sweet spot for players wanting accessible, themed experiences. Five different mono-colored options are available for the taking, each inviting players to discover a unique style of play. Whether you lean toward aggressive dragons, powerful angels, or massive creature combat, there is a Foundation deck waiting to redefine your starting journey.
The appeal of these sets lies in their variety. Players get to dive into themes like Keen Engineering, which challenges players to outmaneuver opponents in mono-blue, or Tramplesaurus Rex, a mono-green behemoth focused on swinging for big damage. Other exciting options include the fiery Reign of Dragons, perfect for red-aligned aggression, and the surprisingly potent Calling All Angels, centered around powerful winged forces.
Even decks that might seem less technical, like Wretched Ranks, offer a rewarding path to building a formidable army of zombies. These are not just decks; they are invitations to experiment with different strategies and creature synergies.
While the initial Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price was a reasonable $30, the market has seen some price fluctuation, with some of these popular options climbing toward $60. Some specific decks, such as Tramplesaurus Rex, have seen prices reach $79.95 through third-party sellers. For players, the real question isn’t just the cost, but how much the experience is worth, especially when considering the effort required to acquire all five decks.
Restocking efforts, including those on Amazon, have made these starter sets more accessible than ever. However, if you plan to collect a variety of these themes, be prepared to purchase a bundle. Ultimately, whether these Foundation decks are for you depends entirely on your budget and where you are on your Magic: The Gathering adventure. They stand as a solid, fun foundation for anyone ready to step into the realm of Commander.
