From Musical Mayhem to Heist Dreams: Summerfall Studios Charts a Course for Next Adventure

Since its founding in 2017, Summerfall Studios has been carving out a unique space in the indie gaming landscape. They have released a couple of ambitious titles during this time, including Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical in 2023 and Malys, a devil exercising deckbuilder from last year.

While these projects showcased the studio’s creativity, the reception for both games didn’t quite reach the heights the team had aimed for. As is often the case in the world of game development, there’s always an asterisk next to the launch, but that doesn’t stop the creative engine from running.

Despite the mixed results, the focus remains firmly on the future. The studio is now channeling its energy toward developing something entirely new, poised for a fresh start and hopefully even bigger success.

Guiding this next chapter is the vision of co-founder and Dragon Age writer David Gaider. Gaider believes there is immense potential waiting to be explored, suggesting that the studio should aim for a different kind of adventure entirely.

The glimmer of inspiration points toward a heist RPG—a genre that perfectly blends strategy, high stakes, and thrilling narrative. This concept suggests a pivot from complex musical and deckbuilder mechanics to something perhaps lighter, faster-paced, and filled with daring plans.

Summerfall Studios is now looking to bring this heist concept to life, aiming to craft an experience that captures the excitement of planning a great score while navigating the high-stakes thrill of a perfect crime.
