Disney says Kingdom Hearts movie isn’t ruled out

The Kingdom Hearts franchise has firmly cemented its place among Disney’s most commercially successful gaming properties, standing as one of nine gaming franchises that have collectively generated over a billion dollars in retail sales. With this massive success already behind them, fans are eagerly looking toward the next grand cinematic adventure.

And I’d say we have a very bright future of new projects coming out. Different ways of putting material out into the world. So I would just say, nothing is impossible,” he stated.

Bush’s involvement in the franchise is deeply rooted in Disney’s animation history. He has a remarkable track record, having co-directed Encanto, which earned him an Academy Award, and co-wrote the screenplay for Moana. This creative pedigree suggests that the Kingdom Hearts universe is being handled by talent capable of delivering spectacular, high-quality storytelling.

The journey of the franchise itself has spanned decades. Although the core concept was greenlit by Michael Eisner many years ago, the franchise’s history is rich with artistic endeavors, including the pilot for a Kingdom Hearts TV show created by filmmaker Seth Kearsley.

Developer Square Enix recently confirmed that Kingdom Hearts 4 is slated for release in late 2027.
