Evercold Gets a Late Date: What We Know About Final Fantasy XIV‘s Next Big Expansion

Get ready to adjust your calendars, Final Fantasy fans. Square Enix’s highly anticipated MMORPG expansion, Evercold, has experienced a slight pause, pushing its release into the heart of the winter gaming season. What was originally slated for January has now been moved to February 2027, promising a late-February launch for the community.

The news arrived during the recent Final Fantasy Fan Fest Japan, where the beloved boss, Naoki Yoshida—affectionately known as Yoshi-P—delivered the update. While the wait is getting a little longer, the official date is now set for February 23, 2027, with an early access window opening just a few days prior on February 19, 2027.

Of course, February is already looking like a packed schedule, with many other major releases vying for attention. From titles like Fable and God of War: Laufey to Persona 4 Revival, the gaming calendar is certainly busy. We are hopeful that players will manage to carve out some precious hours amidst the incoming flood of content.

Meanwhile, the pre-order window is set to open on November 4, which is a wonderfully convenient date, coinciding with the official release of its biggest rival, World of Warcraft Forever. It certainly feels like a spectacular coincidence in the competitive gaming landscape.

For those eager to secure their spot early, pre-orders will come packed with tempting bonuses. Fans can expect exclusive items, including a Kottr minion that belongs to the expansion’s new, fluffy, feline race, along with special earrings and early access privileges. As always, you must be prepared to put a dent in your wallet for these exclusive rewards.

Beyond the timing, Evercold is also bringing some significant gameplay overhauls. The expansion is introducing a new Evolved system designed to streamline ability hotbars and completely rejig how jobs function within the game. Furthermore, the content also features a major crossover, diving into a new Evercold raid series that brings together the beloved Final Fantasy 7 Remake series and veterans of the original JRPG.

Adding to the excitement is the fresh content, including a new typing minigame that has already sparked some chaotic and hilarious struggles among players as they grapple with bots and seemingly impossible words. With these fresh mechanics and exciting crossovers, the anticipation for the February 2027 launch is only set to grow.
