Director Naoki Hamaguchi is dropping some tantalizing hints about the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, suggesting that the story’s central figure, the assistant humanoid Chadley, is about to undergo a significant transformation. Fans who have followed the remake trilogy will be eager to see if this new installment finally gives the character the spotlight he deserves.

Hamaguchi has acknowledged the community’s reaction to Chadley in previous titles, noting that while the character previously served more as a guide or tutorial leading players through side content, his role is set to evolve dramatically. He teases that the conclusion of the trilogy will feature scenes where Chadley plays a much stronger, more integral role in the main narrative itself.

This shift comes after the original character was introduced in the first remake, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, primarily to facilitate combat upgrades and mission progression. As a researcher working for Shinra, Chadley was initially designed to be somewhat detached, which, coupled with his limited interactions, led to a somewhat difficult experience for players.

Even attempts by the narrative to deepen the character—such as the creation of an AI female version named Mai—did not always foster positive relationships, leaving the character in a somewhat lonely existence. Hamaguchi suggests that the forthcoming Revelation is Chadley’s opportunity to finally learn how to act naturally, or perhaps even supernatural.

The expectation is that this new game will push the boundaries of character development, allowing Chadley to move past his previous limitations and become a truly central force in the unfolding story. Hamaguchi leaves the ultimate fate of this evolution up to the players, promising that the changes will be worth witnessing.
