Final Fantasy Resonance visuals and action matter more than the cast
Get ready to ignite your gaming sessions, because Square Enix is set to drop a spectacular new detail about Final Fantasy Resonance, the HD-2D reimagining of the beloved mobile hit, Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius. As players look ahead to the October release, new information has revealed a world brimming with legendary magic, dynamic characters, and turn-based combat mechanics that promise a truly resonant experience.
The adventure plunges players into two vastly different yet equally powerful realms. On one side lies the formidable Zoldaad Empire, a military powerhouse expanding its borders and mass-producing magitek and airships powered by the legendary Fire Crystal. Across the expanse is the mystical city of Mysidia, home to the strongest magic-wielders in the world, where the coveted Ice Crystal is guarded by ancient lore.
Players will navigate this epic landscape alongside a compelling cast of characters, including the familiar faces of Rain, Laswell, Fina, Jake, and Lid, alongside new additions like the wise Mysidian sage Sakura. Opposing them are the powerful Sworn Six of Paladia, the Veritas—four elemental forces embodied by the brutish Veritas of Flame, the honorable Veritas of Earth, and the volatile Veritas of Light.
The heart of the game lies in its classic turn-based RPG foundation, amplified by thrilling Limit Break attacks. Central to the combat system are the Visions of legendary Final Fantasy heroes. These Visions allow players to summon allies who can fight alongside Rain and his companions, unlocking new abilities as the bond between the hero and the Vision strengthens.
The strategy deepens when players can trigger a Resonance by staggering enemies in a single turn, unleashing an exceptionally devastating attack accompanied by slick CG animation. Players can further enhance their Visions by using rare magicite, allowing them to unlock potent new abilities. Some of these powerful Visions include original characters from the mobile game, such as Amelia, the maid wielding Fire-aspected guns; Camille, the mercenary commanding water and earth attacks; Wilhelm, the imperial general who acts as a party shield; Victoria, the black mage of dark magic; and Ayaka, the white mage providing vital support and healing.
Adding further tactical depth are the powerful Espers, beings who can join the battle for three turns before delivering a devastating final attack. These summoned entities include the cuddly Carbuncle, who casts Reflect magic, the sea serpent Leviathan, who deals water damage with a Tsunami, the armor-clad Odin, capable of unleashing non-elemental attacks that can instantly defeat foes, and the mighty dragon Bahamut, who unleashes his signature Megaflare assault.
For those dedicated to the ultimate challenge, the game features completionist content, including a demanding boss battle against the mysterious bladesman Gilgamesh and the formidable Ultima Weapon. This epic confrontation demands perfect preparation, offering players a chance to test their mastery and solidify their place as legends in this reborn world. Final Fantasy Resonance launches for PC and consoles on October 22.
