The world of The Witcher just got a little more pastoral, and perhaps a lot more mysterious. Last night, CD Projekt Red unveiled the first glimpses of Songs of the Past, a new expansion set to deepen the lore of the iconic franchise nearly a decade after the base game’s release.

This expansion pulls players away from the brutal political machinations and constant conflict that define the rest of the continent. Instead, it transports us to Letten, a bucolic, serene country offering a stark contrast to the grim reality Geralt usually navigates. It is a place of open landscapes and quiet beauty, a hidden sanctuary far removed from the usual Witcher concerns.

But tranquility, as we know, is often the most fragile thing in the world of The Witcher. In Letten, however, peace quickly gives way to peril. As Geralt arrives in this tranquil locale, a shadow falls over the idyllic setting. Shortly after his arrival, a tragedy unfolds: Geralt’s friend, the celebrated bard Dandelion, goes missing.

What begins as a simple, heartfelt search for a missing musician quickly morphs into an urgent, dangerous pursuit. For Geralt, the hunt for Dandelion quickly transforms a routine quest into a job worthy of a Witcher—a task that demands the harsh skills and brutal pragmatism of his profession to uncover the truth hidden in the wilds of Letten.
