The military shooter scene has a new, intense contender, arriving in early access and promising a chaotic experience: Wardogs from developer Bulkhead. Drawing comparisons to beloved titles like Arma 3 mods, this game takes the classic King of the Hill concept and injects it with high-octane FPS action. But as the game enters the fray, the focus has shifted from the gameplay itself to the often-frustrating reality of managing the massive community queue.

The excitement has been palpable, quickly drawing in an enormous player base. Bulkhead’s CEO acknowledged the scale of the demand, noting that over 135,000 players had managed to enter the queue thus far, demonstrating the game’s immediate appeal. This influx, however, has brought significant turbulence.

The sheer volume of players attempting to access the game has led to a noticeable surge in community dissatisfaction, manifesting in a flurry of review-bombing on Steam. While the game currently sits at a Mostly Positive rating on Valve’s store, the narrative online is far more complex.

A particular point of contention revolves around access and perceived favoritism among the community. Many players have expressed frustration regarding the online infrastructure and the perceived preferential treatment given to streamers and influencers. One frustrated review highlighted the feeling that streamers were being granted a fast-pass to bypass the login queue, leading to hours of waiting only to encounter authentication errors.

When addressing these concerns, the developers have weighed in, clarifying that there is no special access for content creators. A senior community manager for the publisher confirmed that these access issues are affecting all players equally; the visibility streamers experience is simply a byproduct of their broadcasting activity.

Ultimately, these infrastructural hurdles seem to be par for the course for a smaller studio launching a massive live-service title. Developing and stabilizing a game of this scope involves structural challenges, and there is an understanding that the servers and systems will require time to fully settle. For now, the focus remains on the ongoing evolution of the game, even as the community waits for the systems to stabilize.
