Get System Shock 2 Remaster Free on Epic Games Store
Looking to dive into some of gaming history with a modern twist? The Epic Games Store is currently offering players a golden opportunity to claim some seriously influential titles for free, including a massive remaster of a classic FPS masterpiece. But the deals don’t stop there—you can also snag a fun visual novel just by getting to the store.
At the heart of the promotion is the System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster, a project brought to life by Nightdive Studios. This is more than just a nostalgic throw-back; it’s a complete overhaul of the game that blended first-person shooting with RPG character building, launching back in 1999 and setting a benchmark for environmental storytelling and player choice.
The remaster retains the core design integrity while injecting a serious dose of modern polish. Players can now experience the original vision with remastered visuals, updated character and weapon models, and enhanced cutscenes. For PC gamers, this means high-fidelity performance, supporting up to 4K at 144fps, along with adjustable field of view and ultrawide support, making the experience incredibly immersive.
Nightdive Studios has packed this update with features designed for the modern player, including full mod support, cross-play co-op for up to four players, and the choice of a background—O.S.A., Marine, or Navy—to shape your in-game experience.
The legacy of System Shock 2 is undeniable. Many of the developers involved went on to create critically acclaimed titles like the BioShock series, proving how much influence this game had on the genre. It even earned a respectable 9/10 rating upon an updated review, cementing its place as one of gaming’s foundational pillars.
If you want to explore the roots of the franchise even further, Nightdive also released a full remake of the original System Shock on PC in 2023, featuring revamped controls and stunning HD visuals. While System Shock 2 stands strong as a standalone adventure, fans can still find it on Steam for a discounted price during sales.
Adding another layer of variety to the free offerings, Epic is also giving away Buried Stars. This anime-style visual novel challenges contestants to survive a mysterious attack, offering a completely different flavor of interactive storytelling. Like the System Shock 2 giveaway, this title is available to claim until the same deadline, giving you plenty of time to explore the library.
Whether you’re revisiting a legendary sci-fi adventure or exploring a new visual novel, the Epic Games Store provides a fantastic window to experience some of gaming’s most impactful titles for free.
