GTA 6 won’t spoof Disney World

When thinking about the sprawling world of Grand Theft Auto 6, there’s a lot of excitement surrounding the map and the narrative, but one particular absence has sparked some lively debate among fans: the lack of a direct spoof of Walt Disney World.

For many, the idea of injecting Rockstar‘s signature sarcasm into the highly polished, yet often saccharine, world of Disney parks is appealing. Given that the game is set in Vice City—a stand-in for Miami—fans often wonder why the Florida landscape, including iconic destinations like Walt Disney World, isn’t featured in the game’s geography.

Rockstar has addressed the question of Florida’s representation, assuring that while the game won’t feature those exact locations, the developers are committed to capturing the “full Florida experience” through other means. The design process, they explained, involves evaluating the diversity of landscapes, towns, structures, and landmarks to best serve the game’s needs, rather than simply replicating specific locations.

This design philosophy suggests that Rockstar is focused on creating an immersive environment rather than simply ticking off famous tourist spots. This approach, while disappointing for those craving direct references, still leaves room for clever satire.

Despite the official decision, the door remains open for subtle nods and in-game jokes. The potential for referencing Disney World through radio chatter, absurd advertisements, or satirical spoofs of themes like ticket prices or the phenomenon of the Disney Adult could still provide plenty of humor for dedicated fans.

It’s worth remembering that in previous installments, the series has already wove in subtle references. For instance, GTA 5 included a film company known as Fred’s Pictures, which served as an obvious nod to Disney. Even though the setting of GTA 6 focuses on Vice City rather than Orlando, the opportunity for world-building satire remains a rich vein for creative developers.

The wait continues, with the game set to launch on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. While the physical landmarks may be missing, the spirit of playful mockery is likely to follow Rockstar wherever they lead.
