Hellraiser gets 3 new tabletop adaptations for Halloween 2027
The infernal allure of the Hellraiser universe is making a powerful comeback, and the tabletop gaming world is about to witness a major resurgence. Salt Entertainment has announced a groundbreaking agreement with Clive Barker and Park Ave Ent. LLC to bring three official Hellraiser board and role-playing games to the table. These titles promise to delve into the franchise’s signature themes of desire, forbidden knowledge, and psychic torment, setting the stage for a terrifying journey.
The planned slate of games is packed with unique concepts. One entry, Hellraiser: Puzzle of Flesh, is set to arrive first, slated for release around Halloween 2027, perfectly timing the celebration of the film’s 40th anniversary. This dice-based, push-your-luck game is inspired by the iconic Lament Configuration box. Players will engage in an escape-room style experience centered on shifting loyalties and hidden desires, forcing them to confront what they trust and what they crave within the confines of the game.
For those who prefer a deeper narrative experience, the team is also developing a full-blown Hellraiser tabletop RPG. This project is helmed by designer Franceso Nepitello, known for successfully adapting complex properties into game formats, including the beloved Lord of the Rings universe. Nepitello aims to expand the Hellraiser world, inviting players to explore personal stories of temptation and the horrifying depths of the human psyche that lie beyond the veil.
Nepitello expressed excitement about tackling the material, noting that the game’s blend of dread, desire, and forbidden knowledge offers immense scope for storytelling. He looks forward to the moment players open the box and begin weaving their own narratives of sin and shadow.
Completing this initial lineup is a major new Hellraiser board game spearheaded by designer Michael Shinall, an artist already celebrated for creating hits like Marvel Zombies and Bloodborne: The Board Game. While the specifics of this title remain closely guarded, Shinall brings a profound understanding of the franchise’s unique core. He acknowledges that Hellraiser stands apart in the horror genre because it focuses not just on external monsters, but on the internal depths of the darkest parts of the soul, and he is eager to translate that psychological complexity into a new medium.
The creative direction for these ambitious projects is guided by Clive Barker himself. Geoff Skinner, President of Salt Entertainment, emphasized the honor of this collaboration, noting that Barker is actively approving and guiding the creative process. This partnership draws upon not only the films but also the original novella, Hellbound Heart, ensuring that the games are rooted in the very essence of the Hellraiser mythology. As the development moves forward, fans can expect more details regarding Puzzle of Flesh, the RPG, and Shinall’s major board game project in the coming months.
