id Software loses half studio amid Xbox cuts

The seismic shifts in the gaming industry often come with a dramatic toll, and the history of id Software is no exception. The iconic developers responsible for defining the genre with masterpieces like Doom and Quake found themselves on the receiving end of significant corporate restructuring earlier this year.

The studio, id Software, which has long been a celebrated name in game development, was among the most heavily impacted studios within the Microsoft-owned portfolio during a major business “reset.”

This corporate adjustment resulted in a substantial loss for the team, with approximately 136 employees reportedly losing their jobs.

For a company steeped in legendary history and innovation, these changes represent a significant moment in the trajectory of the gaming landscape. The fate of a studio known for pushing the boundaries of 3D environments is now intertwined with the wider corporate decisions affecting the console and PC markets.
