IKEA and XBOX have teamed up to bring a brand new collection, YXSTABY, that seamlessly blends high-performance gaming aesthetics with everyday comfort and functionality. This nine-piece collection proves that gaming deserves a place in the home that is as thoughtfully designed and comfortable as any other activity.
The collaboration wasn’t just a simple partnership; it was a deep dive into design, where experts from both organizations worked hand-in-hand to reimagine familiar gaming forms into functional furniture. The goal was clear: to create pieces that make it easy for everyone to bring their passion for gaming into their living spaces, whether they are locking in for a session or just lounging on the sofa.
At IKEA, the vision focused on making gaming an accessible and comfortable part of daily life. Philip Dilé, Product Developer at IKEA, shared this philosophy: “With YXSTABY, we worked closely with XBOX to reimagine familiar forms into playful, functional pieces that make it easier for people to bring their love of gaming into the spaces where they live.”
The inspiration for the collection is drawn directly from the iconic XBOX controller. Elements like the D-pad and the thumbstick were transformed, serving as the foundation for innovative furniture pieces. A mirrored display box, for instance, showcases a controller from every angle alongside collectibles, turning gaming gear into decorative centerpieces.
The design extends far beyond decoration. The collection features practical seating and storage solutions, including a dedicated gaming lounge chair, monitor stand, TV stand on castors, side tables on castors, and a laptop support system complete with storage and accessories.
But perhaps the most ingenious piece is the thumbstick stool. Developed directly from the original 3D design files of the XBOX Wireless Controller, this piece takes the concept to the next level. It transforms an object moved by a thumb into a comfortable seat, featuring a unique grip texture that offers ergonomic support, keeping you comfortable while you relax.
Carl Ledbetter, Head of Design for XBOX Devices, noted the creative journey: “We started with the Xbox controller—one of the most recognizable objects in gaming—and looked at how its familiar forms could inspire the collection. By translating elements like the D-pad and thumbstick into functional furniture, we created pieces that celebrate Xbox design while feeling completely at home in everyday living spaces.”
The YXSTABY collection is now available for shoppers to explore in IKEA stores and online later this year. It’s a perfect blend of high-tech design and cozy living, ready to transform any room into a personalized gaming sanctuary.
