When it comes to blockbuster casting, actors often treat the rumor mill like a game, playing coy until the perfect moment arrives. But for X-Men star Inde Navarrette, the hints weren’t just playful; they were a carefully orchestrated preview of some truly epic cinematic connections.

Before the official casting announcements at D23, Navarrette was busy dropping subtle clues about her aspirations within the Marvel universe. In July, she took a meeting with X-Men director Jake Schreier, and instead of focusing solely on the script, she let the excitement lead her. When asked about her dream roles, she casually mentioned her admiration for Mystique, noting that the shapeshifter “has always been super cool.”

This small, seemingly innocent comment set the stage perfectly for the major reveal that followed. Imagine the collective gasp when Navarrette walked onto the stage alongside her fellow X-Men castmates at D23, only to be announced as Rogue.

The connection wasn’t a coincidence; it was a brilliant piece of foreshadowing. When asked about playing Mystique, Navarrette explained that the link between the two characters was rooted in shared complexity. She suggested that the parallels between the shapeshifter’s abilities and Rogue‘s power transfer through contact were enough to tie the characters together.

“The way that character is, it’s so complicated, and it’s so nuanced when you have the originality of the story,” Navarrette explained. “Her and Rogue are also very similar, you know what I mean, if you’ve read the comics. So I was not lying. I was dropping hints, and I was like, ‘If anybody’s picking up what I’m putting down?’, but nobody did.”

This nuanced approach speaks to the depth of the characters she is preparing to portray. Navarrette joins a powerhouse ensemble in the upcoming X-Men film, appearing alongside established talents such as Sadie Sink, Kit Connor, Adam Driver, and Christopher Abbott.

The film, which promises to be a visual and emotional feast, is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2028. It seems Inde Navarrette is ready to step into her role, bringing both subtle foreshadowing and undeniable star power to the franchise.
