The handheld gaming market is currently defined by a particular chipset landscape. Most of the devices currently dominating the space utilize AMD silicon, specifically the Ryzen Z-series chips. These processors are essentially standard laptop components, optimized with specific power settings to deliver excellent performance in compact, portable systems.

While this setup provides solid performance for handheld PCs, Intel has remained largely absent from the dedicated handheld gaming hardware scene. However, Intel is now making a decisive move, stepping into this competitive arena with a powerful new offering that aims to shake up the competition.

Intel is throwing its hat into the ring by introducing two Intel Arc G-series processors designed specifically for gaming handhelds. These chips leverage Intel’s genuinely robust Arc B-series integrated graphics, promising a significant leap in graphical performance for portable systems.

Intel has announced that these new capabilities will be available starting in June 2026, with broader availability expected throughout the rest of the year. This rollout includes several exciting devices that will feature this new architecture, such as a revised MSI Claw model, an Acer Predator Atlas 8, and hardware from OneXPlayer.

What makes Intel’s entry particularly interesting is their branding strategy. While Intel is well-known for its integrated graphics and CPUs in traditional laptops, the “Arc” brand now encompasses the entire package—the CPU, GPU, Neural Processing Unit (NPU), and other critical components.

This move signals a shift toward offering holistic system solutions rather than just discrete components. By bundling these powerful Arc G-series processors into dedicated handheld systems, Intel is positioning itself not merely as a chip manufacturer but as a complete ecosystem provider for portable gaming experiences.
