The wait for a cinematic adaptation of the beloved, R-rated game Bloodborne has reached a new phase, following the official announcement that brought a significant industry name into the project. YouTuber Seán McLoughlin, known by his handle JackSepticEye, has stepped into the producer role, bringing a unique perspective to the adaptation process.

But his involvement goes beyond simply overseeing budgets and schedules. McLoughlin describes his position not as a traditional executive, but as a quality control mechanism—a sort of cinematic “vibe-checker” for the entire endeavor. When discussing the process of hiring and making key creative decisions, he acts as a crucial gatekeeper, ensuring that the vision stays true to the source material.

“I’m the one being like, ‘This is a good idea, this is a bad idea, we shouldn’t do this,'” McLoughlin explains. He functions to vet both the creative concepts and the talent, ensuring that the people involved have a genuine understanding of the intricate world of Bloodborne. As he put it, he makes sure the project doesn’t veer off course by bringing in individuals who don’t grasp the essence of the universe.

McLoughlin’s ambition, however, is clearly centered on preservation rather than competition. He is not aiming for a movie that tries to “one up the game” or compete with the video game itself. Instead, his focus is on honoring the established lore and telling the story of the universe in the most authentic way possible.

Despite his involvement, McLoughlin has consistently stressed that his motivation is rooted in genuine passion, rather than financial gain. He views working on the film as something deeply personal, believing it is what he was meant to do. This deep commitment to the franchise fuels his role as a steward of the source material.

The excitement surrounding the adaptation is only one part of the From Software universe receiving cinematic treatment. Bloodborne is not the only title seeing life on screen; the franchise is expanding across multiple media. For instance, the epic world of Elden Ring is also slated for a live-action adaptation, helmed by director Alex Garland and the studio A24, signaling a growing appetite for immersive, cinematic storytelling from the gaming world.
