One year later, the world of trading card games continues to spin, and October 31 marks a significant milestone for Riftbound, the popular game rooted in the universe of Riot Games’s League of Legends. As the community gears up for the next major expansion, anticipation is building around the upcoming Radiance set.

With four sets already released, the anticipation for Radiance is palpable. As we approach its October 23 launch, the game is dropping tantalizing glimpses of new cards, offering deeper dives into the lore and mechanics that define this exciting franchise.

Today, we pull back the curtain on one of the most intriguing reveals from the new set: the Overnumbered variants of the legendary Ekko, Boy Who Shattered Time. While the base form of Ekko is instantly recognizable, this new artwork brings a fresh perspective to one of the game’s most pivotal figures.

This specific variant introduces a powerful set of mechanics designed to shake up deck-building strategies. The card features complex interactions that reward thoughtful play, blending the themes of time manipulation and tactical exhaustion.

The Overnumbered Ekko card operates on a dynamic system. To empower Ekko, players must Exhaust 1 rune and Ekko himself. Conversely, the Disempower ability allows players to Exhaust Ekko, reduce the cost of the next unit played by 2, provide a recycled rune, and inflict a potent effect: “Kill me at end of turn.”

This intricate mechanism highlights Ekko’s core theme of bending time. By enabling other units in the deck to gain his effects, players can leverage cards with Accelerate abilities—units that enter the game ready to attack immediately. Since Accelerate units typically cost one exhausted rune and one recycled rune, Ekko‘s discount ensures that summoning these powerful, immediate-impact units remains highly cost-effective.

Get ready to test your strategic limits, because the Radiance set is set to redefine how players interact with time, resource management, and board control in Riftbound. Pre-release events, known as “Pre-Rifts,” will kick off on October 16 at local game stores, inviting players to experience the excitement before the official launch on October 23.
