Palworld Gears Up for a Creative Shift with ‘Side by Side‘ Update

Get ready to hold onto your mining picks, Palworld fans, because the development team at Pocketpair has just dropped some exciting news about the future of the world of Pals. The next major content drop is titled Side by Side, slated for release in Winter 2026.

While the official announcement kept the details deliberately vague, the news confirms that major creative changes are on the horizon. Pocketpair released a brief press statement, offering a tantalizing glimpse with an image featuring three of the game’s beloved Pals, all momentarily blacked out. The team has asked players to patiently wait for further updates, building a palpable sense of anticipation for what this new content will unveil.

Beyond the exciting update details, the announcement also offered a peek into the internal workings and the creative philosophy driving the game. In the same release, Pocketpair shared the results of a recent popularity poll among the in-game characters and Pals. Out of 280 characters to vote on, the results gave a clear indication of which Pals and non-Pals are resonating most with the community. Among the most popular Pals was Sekmet, closely followed by Solene and Chillet.

Curiosity didn’t stop there, as the poll also revealed some surprisingly popular non-Pal characters. Zoe, Auri, and Saya topped the list for the most favored non-Pal characters, providing a glimpse into the broader appeal of the game’s ecosystem.

When discussing the direction of the game, head of publishing and communications John “Bucky” Buckley offered insight into the studio’s commitment to meaningful content over sheer quantity. Buckley emphasized that the development team is not aiming simply to release a massive influx of new Pals with the next update. Instead, the core belief is that every Pal should have something memorable.

This philosophy seems to guide their creative decisions. In a landscape often driven by rapid monetization, the team consciously chose to focus on creating spin-offs rather than attempting to build a sprawling, Fortnite-style metaverse. As Buckley noted, this strategic choice is made because maximizing revenue as quickly as possible is not what drives their creative vision.

It’s clear that the focus remains on depth and character design. Furthermore, the team is also making some decisions about what they will and won’t include in future updates. For instance, the team has stressed that players should not expect any underwater biome action in the future, a point that reflects a commitment to focused, intentional content over endless expansion.

The ‘Side by Side‘ update promises to be a deep dive into the lore and character relationships, delivering memorable content that aligns with the developers’ goal of ensuring that every Pal truly has a place in the world of Palworld.
