Palworld wants survival game on Switch 2 despite Nintendo suit
The road ahead for Palworld is currently paved with both legal disputes and ambitious gaming dreams. Developer Pocketpair is locked in a patent infringement lawsuit with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, yet this legal entanglement hasn’t deterred the team from dreaming bigger than just the current console generation.
Despite the ongoing legal drama, the conversation about bringing the open-world survival hit to the next-generation platform, the Switch 2, remains very much alive. For some time, the potential port of Palworld was weighed against the legal obstacles, but the consensus among developers suggested the potential reward was too great to ignore.
Even before the Switch 2 launched, Pocketpair’s communications lead, John Buckley, expressed strong optimism. He argued that porting the massive survival experience was “100% worth considering”, provided the console was sufficiently powerful to handle the demands of such a beefy game.
That optimism is echoed by Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe. Speaking recently, Mizobe highlighted the Switch 2 as an “really amazing platform”, particularly for the Japanese games industry. He emphasized that if any future opportunity arose to discuss or consider bringing Palworld to the Switch platform, the company would be eager to engage in those conversations.
The situation, however, isn’t entirely static. Pocketpair demonstrated its willingness to play on Nintendo‘s systems by releasing other titles, such as the roguelike card game Overdungeon on the Switch. This action suggests that the legal challenges have not forced the development team into an entirely isolated corner.
While the primary game of the lawsuit remains the focal point, the idea of porting Palworld is still on the table. The core argument remains that the game is technically capable of running on capable hardware—it is certainly “beefy” enough to support demanding titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring.
Ultimately, the future of Palworld on the Switch 2 hinges less on the legal battles and more on the platform’s capability and the willingness of the parties involved to find a mutually agreeable path forward. For now, the dream of a massive, open-world adventure bridging worlds on the next console generation continues to simmer.
