The legend of Bayonetta, the monster-spanking witch who cemented her place among action game greats, continues to inspire. From her iconic appearances on the Xbox 360 and PS3 to her sprawling presence in titles like Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Stellar Blade, her influence is undeniable. But as the landscape of gaming shifts, the future of the celebrated franchise has sparked some important conversations within the development community.

At the heart of the development studio, PlatinumGames, the conversation turned to whether the studio intends to continue bringing Bayonetta‘s world to life. Inaba, the boss of the studio, has weighed in, suggesting that the desire to expand Bayonetta‘s narrative and develop her character remains strong, even amidst significant changes in the team.

While the specifics of future projects remain under wraps, Inaba expressed an enthusiastic outlook for the franchise’s potential. “We have a strong desire to further develop the character of Bayonetta and expand her world,” he stated, urging fans to look forward to whatever form that vision takes in the future.

This desire for continued creative expansion comes against a backdrop of notable departures. The studio has seen several high-profile talents move on, affecting the direction of future projects. For instance, legendary director and series co-creator Hideki Kamiya departed in 2023 to pursue work on Okami 2, citing disagreements over the studio’s direction.

Kamiya’s exit was not an isolated event. The studio has lost other major figures, including Abebe Tinari, who helmed Bayonetta Origins, Yusuke Miyata, who worked on Bayonetta 3, Takahisa Taura, and Kenji Saito, among others, leaving the studio team significantly restructured.

Despite these shifts in personnel, the foundation of PlatinumGames’ creative drive seems intent on nurturing beloved IPs. The ongoing interest in Bayonetta suggests that the legacy of the franchise is powerful enough to sustain future development, promising that the witch’s adventures will continue to evolve across the gaming world.
