The 8BitDo Pro 2 is one of the most widely recommended alternatives to the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, and it’s a superb all-rounder for PC and mobile too.
Design and features
Its retro-inspired shape takes cues from the SNES and PlayStation pads, with symmetrical sticks and an excellent D-pad, ideal for 2D and retro games. There are two back paddles, and 8BitDo’s software lets you remap buttons, adjust stick and trigger sensitivity, and create profiles. It connects via Bluetooth and works with Switch, PC, Android and iOS.
Weaknesses
On Switch, it lacks HD Rumble and amiibo support, though it does have standard rumble and motion controls.
Verdict
The 8BitDo Pro 2 is a brilliant, versatile controller at a great price. If you play on several devices or love retro games, it’s one of the best controllers you can buy.
