8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth Review: Drift-Resistant With a Dock
8/10 — 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth Controller
Works with: Nintendo Switch, PC
Pros
- Hall effect sticks resist drift
- Charging dock included
- Back buttons and customisation software
- Comfortable, Pro Controller-style shape
Cons
- No HD Rumble or amiibo support
- Dock takes up desk space
The 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth controller is a modern, Pro Controller-style pad for Switch and PC, and it fixes one of the biggest problems with Nintendo’s own controllers.
Design and features
It has Hall effect sticks, which use magnets to measure movement and resist drift. A charging dock keeps it topped up, and there are two back buttons with customisation through 8BitDo’s software. It connects via Bluetooth to Switch and PC, and its shape is comfortable for long sessions.
Verdict
The 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth is a great alternative to the Switch Pro Controller, especially if you’ve been burned by stick drift. It lacks HD Rumble and amiibo support, but it’s excellent value.
