DualSense Edge Review: Sony's Pro Pad Has One Big Flaw

Sony DualSense Edge Wireless Controller

7.5/10 — Sony DualSense Edge Wireless Controller

Works with: PS5, PC

Pros

  • Keeps haptics and adaptive triggers
  • Swappable back buttons and trigger stops
  • Replaceable stick modules
  • Quick profile switching

Cons

  • Very expensive
  • Battery life is shorter than the standard DualSense
  • Sticks can still drift (though modules are replaceable)

The DualSense Edge is Sony’s first pro-style controller, designed to take on Microsoft’s Elite controller. It keeps everything that makes the DualSense special and adds the features competitive players want.

Design and features

It looks like a DualSense with a black touchpad, but adds two swappable back buttons (in lever or half-dome styles), three-step trigger stops, and interchangeable stick caps. Its standout feature is replaceable stick modules: if one starts to drift, you can swap it out rather than replacing the whole controller. Profiles can be switched on the fly with a function button.

Weaknesses

It’s very expensive, and battery life is shorter than the already-average standard DualSense. The stick modules can still drift, and replacements cost extra.

Verdict

The DualSense Edge is a superb pro controller that keeps the DualSense’s haptics and adaptive triggers, which third-party pads can’t. But its price and battery life are hard to ignore. It’s worth it for dedicated PS5 players; everyone else should stick with the standard DualSense.
