GameSir G7 SE Review: The Budget Pick That Beats the Odds

GameSir G7 SE

8/10 — GameSir G7 SE

Works with: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC

Pros

  • Hall effect sticks resist drift
  • Very affordable
  • Two mappable back buttons
  • Officially licensed for Xbox

Cons

  • Wired only
  • Lighter, less premium build
  • No rumble in the triggers

The GameSir G7 SE has become one of the most popular budget controllers for Xbox and PC, and it’s easy to see why. It offers features that used to be reserved for premium pads at a fraction of the price.

Design and features

It follows the standard Xbox layout closely and feels comfortable, if a little lighter than Microsoft’s own pad. The standout feature is its Hall effect thumbsticks, which use magnets to measure movement, so they shouldn’t suffer from the stick drift that plagues many controllers. Two mappable back buttons and a 3.5mm headphone jack round out the package, and it’s officially licensed, so it works properly on Xbox consoles.

The catch is that it’s wired only. That’s fine at a desk or for playing close to the TV, but less convenient on the sofa.

Verdict

The GameSir G7 SE is one of the best-value controllers you can buy. If you don’t mind a cable, its drift-resistant sticks and back buttons make it a smarter buy than many pricier pads.
