Hori Fighting Commander OCTA Review: The Fighting Game Pad

Hori Fighting Commander OCTA

8/10 — Hori Fighting Commander OCTA

Works with: PS5, PS4, PC

Pros

  • Excellent D-pad with an octagonal gate
  • Six-button arcade-style layout
  • Officially licensed
  • Affordable

Cons

  • Wired only
  • Not ideal for non-fighting games

Hori has been making fighting game controllers for decades, and the Fighting Commander OCTA is its latest pad for PlayStation and PC.

Design and features

Its six face buttons are arranged in two rows of three, like an arcade cabinet, and its D-pad uses an octagonal gate for precise diagonals, ideal for special moves in Street Fighter, Tekken and others. It’s officially licensed, wired and reasonably priced, with customisable button assignments.

Verdict

The Hori Fighting Commander OCTA is one of the best fighting game pads available. It isn’t designed for general gaming, but if you love fighting games and don’t want an arcade stick, it’s a great choice.
