Hori Split Pad Pro Review: The Best Way to Play Switch Handheld

8/10 — Hori Split Pad Pro
Works with: Nintendo Switch
Pros
- Full-size grips and a proper D-pad
- Large, comfortable sticks
- Assignable rear buttons and turbo
- Officially licensed
Cons
- Handheld mode only
- No rumble, motion controls or amiibo
- Makes the Switch much larger
The Hori Split Pad Pro is designed for one thing: making handheld Switch play more comfortable. It slides onto the console in place of the Joy-Con and gives you full-size grips.
Design and features
It’s much bigger than the Joy-Con, with large sticks, a real D-pad, and full-size buttons, making long handheld sessions far more comfortable. There are assignable rear buttons and turbo functions. It’s officially licensed by Nintendo.
Weaknesses
It only works in handheld mode, and it drops HD Rumble, motion controls and amiibo support. It also makes the Switch a lot bulkier to carry around.
Verdict
The Hori Split Pad Pro is the best way to play the Switch in handheld mode, especially for long sessions. Just remember it’s handheld only.
