7.5/10 — Logitech Cordless Precision Controller (Xbox)

Works with: Xbox

Pros

  • Reliable wireless play on the original Xbox
  • Compact, comfortable shape
  • Well regarded by players at the time

Cons

  • Needs AA batteries
  • No memory card slots
  • Working units increasingly hard to find

The original Xbox never had an official wireless controller, so Logitech filled the gap. Its Cordless Precision Controller was one of the most popular ways to play Xbox games without a cable.

Design and features

It’s a compact pad, similar in size to the Controller S, with a wireless receiver that plugs into the console’s controller port. It runs on AA batteries. Players at the time considered it one of the best Xbox controllers, wired or not, with responsive inputs and comfortable grips. An earlier, larger Logitech cordless model also existed.

Verdict

The Logitech Cordless Precision Controller is the best way to play original Xbox games wirelessly. Test any second-hand unit carefully, because working receivers are becoming harder to find.
