Namco JogCon Review: A Force-Feedback Dial for Your Thumb
6.5/10 — Namco JogCon
Works with: PlayStation, PS2
Pros
- Unique force-feedback steering dial
- Bundled with Ridge Racer Type 4 in some regions
- Collectible
Cons
- Very few games supported it
- No analogue sticks
- Novelty more than a daily controller
The JogCon was Namco’s follow-up to the NeGcon. Instead of twisting the controller, you steer with a dial in the middle, which pushes back with force feedback.
Design and features
It’s a standard-shaped pad with a large, rotating dial in the centre. In supported games, most notably Ridge Racer Type 4, the dial is used for steering, and its motor provides resistance and feedback. It was bundled with Ridge Racer Type 4 in some regions.
Verdict
The JogCon is a fascinating curiosity, but very few games supported it. It’s one for collectors and Ridge Racer fans.
