Nintendo 64 Controller for Switch Review: Nostalgia, Wireless
7.5/10 — Nintendo 64 Controller (Nintendo Switch Online)
Works with: Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2
Pros
- Faithful recreation of the N64 pad
- Wireless with a rechargeable battery
- Makes N64 games on Switch feel right
Cons
- Requires Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack
- Only really suited to N64 games
- Hard to get hold of at times
The Nintendo 64 controller for Switch is a wireless recreation of the original three-pronged pad, designed for the N64 games included with Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.
Design and features
It looks and feels like the original, with its central stick, C-buttons and Z trigger, but it’s wireless and rechargeable over USB-C. Playing Super Mario 64 or Ocarina of Time with it feels right in a way that modern pads can’t match.
Verdict
The N64 controller is a must for anyone who plays N64 games on Switch Online. It’s only really suited to those games, and you’ll need the Expansion Pack subscription, but the nostalgia is worth it.
