The Access controller is Sony’s answer to Microsoft’s Xbox Adaptive Controller. Launched in 2023, it’s designed to help players with limited mobility play PS5 games comfortably.
Design and features
It’s a circular controller with a stick and eight buttons around it. Button caps come in different shapes and sizes and can be swapped to suit different needs, and the controller can be used at any orientation. Up to two Access controllers and a DualSense can work together as one, letting players split controls between devices, or share them with a friend or carer. Expansion ports let you connect external switches, buttons and triggers.
Verdict
The Access controller is a thoughtful, versatile accessibility device that opens up PS5 gaming to more players. It’s an important addition to Sony’s line-up, and well worth considering for anyone who struggles with a standard controller.
