PowerA Enhanced Wireless Controller Review: A Budget Switch Pad
6.5/10 — PowerA Enhanced Wireless Controller (Switch)
Works with: Nintendo Switch
Pros
- Cheaper than the Pro Controller
- Officially licensed
- Mappable back buttons
- Lots of designs and characters
Cons
- Runs on AA batteries
- No rumble or amiibo support
- Some reports of stick drift
PowerA’s Enhanced Wireless Controller is one of the most common budget alternatives to Nintendo’s Switch Pro Controller, and it comes in a huge range of colourful designs.
Design and features
It has a comfortable, Pro Controller-style shape with two mappable back buttons, and it’s officially licensed by Nintendo. It supports motion controls but drops rumble and amiibo support, and runs on AA batteries rather than a rechargeable battery.
Verdict
The PowerA Enhanced Wireless Controller is a decent budget pad, and great for younger players who’ll love its character designs. But it lacks rumble and needs batteries, so the 8BitDo Pro 2 is often the better-value choice.
