7/10 — Turtle Beach Recon Controller
Works with: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC
Pros
- Built-in audio controls for headsets
- Mappable rear buttons
- Comfortable, grippy design
- Good value
Cons
- Wired only
- Bulky
- Standard sticks
The Turtle Beach Recon Controller is a wired Xbox pad designed with headset users in mind. It’s officially licensed and works with Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
Design and features
Its standout feature is a set of audio controls built into the pad, so you can adjust game and chat volume, mic monitoring and Turtle Beach’s audio presets without opening a menu. There are also mappable rear buttons and a textured grip. It’s a little bulkier than the standard Xbox pad, but comfortable for long sessions.
Verdict
The Turtle Beach Recon Controller is a good-value wired pad, particularly if you use a headset for chat. It isn’t as refined as Microsoft’s own controller, but its audio controls are genuinely handy.
