Sekiro director begs fans not to watch new trailer spoiler
The anticipation surrounding the adaptation of FromSoftware’s critically acclaimed video game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, has been reaching a fever pitch. With the anime adaptation, Sekiro: No Defeat, poised to arrive, fans eagerly await every detail of the story. However, this excitement was momentarily overshadowed by a rather bizarre digital mishap involving a new teaser trailer.
In a move that brought the anime world into sharp focus, a one-minute clip titled The Battle in the Silvergrass Fields was released on September 3, just ahead of the planned Japanese theatrical release. Unfortunately, this new footage contained a cinematic reveal that the director, Kenichi Kutsuna, had not yet approved for public viewing.
Reacting swiftly to this unintentional leak, Kutsuna stepped in to manage the situation, issuing a public warning to the fanbase. He acknowledged the incident, describing it as an unfortunate incident, and urged viewers to wait and experience the official cinematic release in theaters instead.
“I know it’s probably too late, but a scene which – while not a plot spoiler per se, contains a cinematic reveal that really shouldn’t be spoiled – has been uploaded online,” Kutsuna shared on social media. His clear message was simple: audiences should see the main event in the cinema.
The director attributed the error to negligence on the part of the production company, Arch, though he made it clear that Kadokawa Corporation bears no blame for the oversight. He directed any complaints toward Arch, maintaining a focus on the artistic experience for the audience.
What exactly was the unauthorized reveal? It turned out to be a glimpse into a pivotal fight scene between Wolf and Genichiro. The footage offered a closer look at a crucial moment where Wolf loses his arm, a pivotal event that later dictates the character’s use of the Shinobi Prosthetic.
Kutsuna advised viewers to skip the final few seconds of the clip if they wished to save the impact of this dramatic moment for their very first viewing.
While the teaser caused a momentary stir, the core narrative of Sekiro: No Defeat remains centered on Wolf’s quest to rescue the young lord Kuro and save the land of Ashina.
