A Legend’s Honor: Shinji Mikami is Inducted into the Interactive Arts Hall of Fame
The gaming world is preparing to celebrate a giant, and the spotlight is set firmly on one of its most foundational figures. Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami is slated to receive the prestigious Hall of Fame Award at the 30th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards ceremony on February 18, 2027. The induction is being presented by a figure deeply connected to Mikami’s journey. Goichi Suda (SUDA51), a fellow creator, will present the award to his close friend and creative collaborator. Suda reflected on their shared history, noting that Mikami was instrumental in his understanding of game development, serving as a pivotal mentor in the pursuit of directorial and design skills.

Mikami’s influence is immeasurable, spanning over three decades of creating some of the most iconic and genre-defining titles in gaming history. From the atmospheric terror of Resident Evil and the kinetic flair of Devil May Cry to the dynamic world of Dino Crisis, The Evil Within, Hi-Fi Rush, and Ghostwire: Tokyo, his catalog stands as a testament to boundless creativity and mastery.
Beyond the sheer volume of his work, Mikami’s impact on the action game genre is monumental. As Meggan Scavio, president of the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, noted, Mikami has consistently demonstrated an originality and creative vision that inspires developers and fans alike. He is a figure whose work continually pushes the boundaries of what interactive entertainment can achieve.
Currently, Mikami continues to shape the industry as the Creative Director and CEO of Unbound Inc. Following a strategic shift earlier this year, Unbound Inc. was purchased by Stellar Blade developer Shift Up, placing Mikami at the forefront of exciting new projects. He remains actively involved in development, currently working on an unannounced video game that promises to further expand his legendary portfolio.
By joining the Hall of Fame, Mikami joins an elite group of creators, including industry legends like Ed Boon, Tim Schafer, Koji Kondo, and Todd Howard, solidifying his place among the greats of interactive arts.
