Spader asks if Ultron returns in Avengers Doomsday
The Living Automaton and the MCU: James Spader on Ultron’s Unexpected Journey
Eleven years after his debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron, James Spader has recently returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in <VisionQuest>. While the show has delighted fans, it has also ignited a fresh wave of speculation about the future of the living automaton with a genocidal god complex, particularly regarding his potential role in upcoming events like <Avengers: Doomsday>.
The buzz surrounding Spader’s presence in the new series has naturally led to intense curiosity among Marvel aficionados. Journalists and fans alike are constantly asking the big questions: Will Ultron make a reappearance in the epic confrontation of <Avengers: Doomsday>?
When pressed for insight, Spader offered a playful glimpse into the whirlwind of fan demands. Speaking to a Swiss outlet, he admitted that the questions are endless. “I can’t tell you the amount of people that come up to you… if you’ve been in one of the Marvel films,” Spader shared, noting that people are still eager for information about the character’s future trajectory.
The speculation, however, faced some reality checks. While the desire for Ultron’s return is strong, the odds of him featuring in <Avengers: Doomsday> are currently slim, especially since he did not receive his own chair during the initial cast announcements. Yet, the storyline itself provides a compelling narrative arc.
<VisionQuest> has proven to be a resounding success, with Marvel fans widely labeling the villain-in-reform as the undeniable highlight of the new MCU show. Spader himself found the journey unexpectedly transformative. He expressed that he was constantly surprised by the unpredictable directions the creator, Terry Matalas, took the character throughout the series.
“Any of the things that I might have thought about him when I did the film just were so much more of in the show, in <VisionQuest>,” Spader remarked. He reflected that he was unprepared for the perfect arc an actor aspires to—the realization that a character can truly have a life when you start to perform it.
<VisionQuest> episodes 1 and 2 are now streaming on Disney Plus, offering viewers a deep dive into the complex and evolving world of Ultron. Whether Ultron will step back into the MCU or continue his journey remains to be seen, but for now, the living automaton continues to captivate audiences.
