Stan pitches “Sicario” Winter Soldier movie idea to Kevin Feige
Sebastian Stan, the actor who brought the complex, morally grey character of Bucky Barnes to life across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has recently shared some fascinating insights into his creative process and a bold pitch he believes Marvel Studios should consider.
While Bucky has long been one of the most compelling figures in the MCU, Stan has recently reflected on his career, noting that he has never led a movie for Marvel. This sentiment led him to share a pitch he developed for the studio head, Kevin Feige, an idea that perfectly captures the intensity of the Winter Soldier persona.
Stan proposed a film reminiscent of a Sicario, a thriller built around an intense psychological journey. The concept centered on a character grappling with a past connection, brainwashing, and an obsession with uncovering the truth about the person who shaped him.
When discussing the idea, Stan recalled keeping the budget intentionally small, focusing the narrative purely on the internal psychological tension. He described the movie as a deep dive into a character’s quest to figure out who they are amidst the chaos of their past.
The response from Feige was encouraging, as he reportedly responded with a simple, positive affirmation: Yeah, that sounds cool!
Despite this compelling concept, Stan noted that while the idea was fantastic, the opportunity to explore the Winter Soldier fully had yet to materialize. It is clear that the character’s journey—straddling the line between hero and villain—has always been rich territory for the actor.
Currently, Stan is poised to return to the fray as part of the New Avengers in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Although he will be involved, the exact scope of his role remains open to development.
In a telling detail about his collaborative approach, Stan revealed that during the filming of the Avengers material, they focused on shooting scattered scenes rather than adhering to a single, rigid script. This method allowed for a continuous, evolving narrative, ensuring the storytelling remained dynamic and kept journalists guessing.
Beyond Marvel projects, Stan is also deeply engaged in other major cinematic endeavors. He is currently immersed in filming The Batman 2, starring opposite Robert Pattinson. While details are still emerging, speculation is rife that he may be taking on the role of Harvey Dent, adding another layer to his impressive portfolio of roles.
