Stephen King Horror Series Returns to HBO Max
It has been a phenomenal year for horror enthusiasts, proving that the genre continues to deliver scares and surprising hits across the screen. From internet folklore to major theatrical success, recent releases have proven that the fear factor is far from fading.
One of the standout surprises was Obsession, which quickly cemented itself as one of the biggest surprise hits of 2026. Simultaneously, digital nightmares found their way into the mainstream as films like Backrooms transformed an internet concept into a box-office smash, demonstrating the power of modern horror storytelling. Even smaller, independent projects, such as Hokum, successfully carved out an audience for themselves, showing the diverse landscape of modern horror appeal.
But the most thrilling development for fans of classic scares is now unfolding in the realm of legends. One of the most iconic and enduring narratives from horror icon Stephen King is set to receive a new chapter.
HBO has officially renewed It: Welcome to Derry for a second season. This major decision sends the audience once again deep into the cursed history of the town, following the journey of Pennywise and the lingering dread of the cursed Maine locale. Fans can now look forward to an even deeper dive into the dark, unsettling world that defines this beloved horror saga.
