Street Fighter V offline due to PHP security flaw

The world of fighting games is currently experiencing a strange and abrupt pause, hitting a beloved classic hard with a security crisis. While Street Fighter 6 has reigned supreme in popularity for the past three years, a devoted contingent of players remains fiercely loyal to its predecessor, Street Fighter V.

Why the lingering devotion? For many, the answer lies in the game’s unique DNA. Street Fighter V boasted a character roster that felt expansive, offering a deep pool of fighters, and its distinct mechanics, such as the V-Skill and V-Trigger systems, provided a style of play that many simply miss. Some players find the recent changes in newer titles, like Drive Rush or throw loops in Street Fighter 6, simply don’t align with their preferred gameplay experience.

Unfortunately, this dedicated player base is now facing an unexpected obstacle. Due to widespread security concerns stemming from a critical vulnerability in the PHP programming language, online functionality across various services has been temporarily shut down across the board. This vulnerability has forced a halt to online services until security can be fully guaranteed.

As a direct consequence of these external security-led shutdowns, the online features for Street Fighter V have been suspended. Furthermore, the game has been temporarily delisted from the Steam platform, effectively removing it from general sale while the developers address the security issues.

This situation puts a damper on the community that loves classic fighting games, forcing a pause on the connectivity that binds the players together. For the dedicated fans of Street Fighter V, the focus now shifts from competitive online play to waiting patiently for the necessary security updates to be implemented, allowing the game to return to the community in a secure environment.
