Tim Sweeney: Valve held gaming back for years

Tim Sweeney, the founder of Epic Games, has recently been caught in a rather playful standoff with the Steam platform run by Valve. While the larger community remains largely unperturbed by the friction, Sweeney has been vocal in his complaints about Steam‘s continued integration of generative AI disclosures.

The simmering tension escalated further when Sweeney decided to take direct action. In an effort to playfully provoke his counterparts, he took the unusual step of creating a modified version of the Epic Games Launcher, which he jokingly referred to as “vibecoded.” The intention was clear: to stick it to Valve and Gabe Newell.

However, this attempt at digital mischief did not land well. Despite the humorous intent, the “vibecoded” version of the launcher quickly turned into a significant technical failure, resulting in a truly messy experience for Sweeney himself. The playful protest quickly devolved into a rather chaotic demonstration of software frustration.
