Tommy Shepherd played Speed but doesn’t know what he auditioned for
The world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is constantly spinning new webs of mystery, but for the upcoming series <VisionQuest>, the focus is on a lineage as complex and shadowy as it is compelling. At the heart of the narrative is a character whose very existence is a puzzle: Tommy Shepherd, rumored to be Vision’s reincarnated son.
The casting of the role has only amplified the intrigue. Ruaridh Mollica, who will bring Tommy Shepherd to life, shared a fascinating anecdote about his journey toward Hollywood. He admitted that when considering roles in the Marvel universe, it felt like a lottery ticket—a true random draw. Though he never revealed what he auditioned for, he hinted that his experience in the industry was filled with fake names and fabricated scenarios, meaning he remains delightfully unknowing about his past audition.
Yet, this mysterious background perfectly mirrors the lore of the character. In the Marvel Comics universe, Tommy is established as one of the reincarnated sons of Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch) and Vision. He is also known by the superhero moniker Speed, carrying powers reminiscent of Quicksilver.
The adaptation for Disney Plus, however, takes a creative leap by adjusting the details. While the comics name him Shepherd, the official series synopsis for <VisionQuest> refers to him as Shepard, perhaps suggesting that this story is an even greater mystery than initially realized.
The plot kicks off in a world where a rebooted Vision seeks to hide from those intent on weaponizing him. While attempting to lay low, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including the infamous Ultron, to uncover his true meaning. This quiet period of self-reflection is shattered when a bounty placed on his head forces him into flight alongside Thomas Shepard, the enigmatic boy who may be Vision’s lost son.
The series promises a stunning blend of established MCU talent. It will feature the return of Paul Bettany as Vision, alongside James Spader as the menacing Ultron, adding layers of familiar gravitas to the unfolding drama.
