Ubisoft confirms only one Assassin’s Creed Remake in development
When talking about the history-hopping stealth-action franchise Assassin’s Creed, the conversation often turns to the tantalizing prospect of remakes. But what is the current landscape for these reimagined classics? Publisher Ubisoft has recently offered a candid look at their development pipeline, clearing up some long-standing fan desires regarding revisiting beloved titles.
The publisher laid out their position in a recent update, making it clear that while the appetite for new stories is strong, the focus is firmly set on the future. While the recent Assassin’s Creed 4 remake seemed to sail smoothly, Ubisoft was transparent that they currently have no other Assassin’s Creed remake actively in development. This signals that the studio is prioritizing new narrative territory rather than immediately diving back into re-imagining older classics.
This focus is understandable, especially considering the massive effort behind projects like Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. That remake proved to be a monumental undertaking, requiring teams to rebuild old systems and balance legacy with innovation. The success of that effort, which earned a high review score, demonstrated the challenges involved in bringing older worlds up to modern standards.
Despite the current pause on classic remakes like those of Assassin’s Creed or Assassin’s Creed II, the door remains firmly ajar. Ubisoft acknowledged that while they are focused on the next chapter, they remain open to exploring opportunities to bring older titles back. The message is clear: Nothing is true, everything is permitted, suggesting that the desire to revisit classic settings is a sentiment the company will keep exploring.
Instead of dwelling on the past, the studio’s current energy is channeled into exciting new worlds. Teams are intensely focused on the next generation of Assassin’s Creed titles, featuring entirely new settings and stories that promise fresh adventures. Among these upcoming projects is Codename Hexe, which is set to push the franchise into uncharted territory.
Furthermore, Ubisoft has promised a sustained stream of new content across its major franchises. The publisher has announced plans to deliver new games in the Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Ghost Recon franchises over the course of the next few years, with major deliverables anticipated by March 2029. This roadmap ensures that while the history of the Creed is respected, the future of the franchise is already in full swing.
