Unlocking new gameplay in The Saros Zenith update

Get ready to step into a new dimension of bullet ballet. Starting October 19, all Saros owners can access the Zenith update, an overhaul designed not just to enhance the game, but to make the explosive action of Carcosa accessible and exhilarating for everyone.

Housemarque has poured their focus into Zenith, aiming to deliver two main goals: boosting replayability for seasoned players who have mastered the depths of Carcosa, and making the game welcoming to a wider audience eager to discover its addictive, high-octane combat.

To achieve this, the update introduces several accessibility features that refine the experience without compromising the core intensity of the combat.

For players who want to adjust the pacing of the action, the new Slow Game Speed setting allows you to dial back the pace. This gives players precious extra time to react to hostile attack telegraphs, track incoming projectiles, and decide their moves—Jump, Dash, Shield, or Parry—with greater precision. Whether you engage in a frantic firefight or a careful tactical maneuver, you now have the control needed to master the timing.

Streamlining the combat flow is another key improvement. The new Auto-fire setting automatically triggers your weapon when you aim at an enemy. This frees up mental bandwidth, allowing players to focus entirely on movement and defensive maneuvers, such as executing a precise dash to avoid damage. Importantly, this accessibility feature does not compromise skill; reloading remains a player’s responsibility, ensuring that skill expression is still paramount.

Furthermore, the update significantly expands the depth of Carcosa through new modifier systems. Players can now customize the challenge level using 10 new Protection Modifiers and 10 Trial Modifiers. These modifiers allow players to tailor the experience exactly to their desired level of difficulty.

One particularly thrilling addition is the Corruption Melee Enhancement Protection Modifier. This mechanic reframes the game’s most fearsome elements. When taking damage from certain projectiles builds up Corruption, this modifier turns that accumulated power into devastating damage upon a melee strike. It transforms a dangerous mechanic into a source of power, encouraging players to push into the heart of the fray.

The challenge continues with the new Hostile Regeneration Trial Modifier. This modifier introduces a high-stakes tactical element: larger hostiles can be stunned by weapon damage, but they must be finished with a melee strike to ensure they don’t quickly recover. This demands split-second strategy and rapid engagement.

These new modifiers integrate seamlessly with the new Eclipse Layers mode, which introduces a new layer of progression. After clearing Carcosa, players unlock mysterious nodes that lead to successive, more intense versions of the game. To unlock these layers, players must select combinations of Carcosan Modifiers and Trial Modifiers to meet specific thresholds, inviting deep strategic thinking about which challenge to embrace.

As a reward for mastering these complexities, players can demonstrate their command during the Eclipse Layers by donning a golden Crown. The more challenging Trials and Modifiers a player undertakes, the more splendid the Crown becomes, serving as a shining testament to their grit. This Crown is also the key to unlocking new collectable Visions—murals etched into stone—which reveal hidden stories across Carcosa.

Finally, for those looking for an intense competitive outlet, the new Overlord Rush mode provides a thrilling training simulation. Players race against the clock, competing with friends globally to dispatch powerful Overlords across multiple “Sets,” culminating in the ultimate “Totality” challenge. It’s a spectacular way to test skill and compete for bragging rights on the integrated leaderboard.

Zenith ensures that Saros is not just a game, but an evolving arena for skill, strategy, and spectacle. Get ready to explore the expanded world of Carcosa and see how far you can push the limits of your own legend.
